December 11- December 17
Watching Jesus interact with children invites us into a paradigm where weakness, not strength, is celebrated. Jesus advocates for children that adults overlook. He values their opinions and experiences; he lifts them up as a model.
In addition to children, Jesus maintains a tenderness and sensitivity to everyone who is vulnerable. Jesus is gentle with the weak while refuting the oppression of the powerful. He recognizes where mercy is needed and offers it unhampered by questioning onlookers. May we find a warm invitation in Jesus’s words: “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these (Matthew 19:14-15).”
